SC007 PNG Lieut W. (Bill) Morgan beside Stacey Barlow's grave shortly after his burial. Photograph taken by Rev Hartley. Date on photograph Sanananda Dec '42. Generally Regt men formed burial parties in January 1943 after the conflict ended to find and bury Regimental members killed in action. Where possible bodies were buried immediately. Later after the conflict the deceased were removed to a central burial site and then to Bomana Cemetery near Port Moresby. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission carried out this work. The source of the photograph was Phil Barlow, brother to Stacey and a member of the regiment in 1942-43. In more recent years Phil visited the grave of his brother at Bomana Cemetery and took with him a single horseshoe and placed it on his brother's grave. That horse shoe was still on the grave in November 2002 when the Commonwealth Government's Papua New Guinea Commemorative Mission to dedicate memorials at Milne bay and Popondetta visited Bomana Cemetery for a Memorial Service. The Papua New Guninean man working that section of the cemetery showed with pride how he was caring for all the brothers and family members lying in rest and under his care. Phil Barlow
